Common question

Question: How do I know how much exercise is good for me at my age?
Answer: Undertaking 30 minutes of moderate physical activity on most days of the week has many important health benefits. It improves strength and balance, and can reduce your risk of falls. It can increase your cardiovascular fitness and endurance. It can also contribute to independent living by helping to maintain, or increase, your ability to undertake activities of daily living. Choose an activity that you enjoy such as walking, dancing, swimming, bowls, tai chi, exercise class. Talk to you doctor to help you choose the most appropriate form of physical activity for you. Other professionals such as physiotherapists, nutritionists or exercise physiologists may help you too. The HealthInsite website has a Health and Wellbeing area providing links to topic pages on issues that affect your health, such as fitness, nutrition, mental health and drugs, as well as information on health-related issues, such as health insurance and the health system, legal issues and biotechnology.
